Hopkins, Mark
(3 sep. 1814, Condado de Richmond, Va., EE.UU.–29 mar. 1878, Yuma, Ariz.).

Hombre de negocios estadounidense. Contribuyó a crear el ferrocarril Central Pacific (posteriormente Southern Pacific). El hotel Mark Hopkins de San Francisco, que corona Nob Hill, lleva su nombre en su honor. Se crió en Carolina del Norte. Luego de intentar dedicarse a la explotación del oro en California en 1851, sin resultados fructíferos, empezó a vender abarrotes e instaló uno de los negocios más prósperos del estado. Planeó, junto con otros tres comerciantes, el tendido de vía férrea transcontinental y en 1861 establecieron la Central Pacific Railroad. En 1869 se completó la línea principal que conectaba con la de la Union Pacific Corp. en Promontory, Utah.
